Traffic Exchanges: Why Use Them?

April 24th, 2009 Ricardo V 2 comments

Why do people use Traffic Exchanges?
When I was thinking about why people use traffic exchanges I came up with three main reasons: traffic, page rank/alexa rank/compete, time efficiency.

Traffic
We all need the extra traffic, right? Well basically people use traffic exchanges because it’s easy traffic. Depending on what they are marketing/drawing traffic to a 30 second visit may do the job. The website which the traffic is going to may be able to capture the readers attention and retain them longer than the 30 seconds/1 minute timer is up. Since most traffic exchanges are manual the user has the choice to continue to the next site or to stick around. With that said, the traffic isn’t targeted but has the chance to convert to targeted traffic.

Page Rank / Alexa / Compete
By using a traffic exchange coupled with an Alexa toolbar you can actually increase your page rank. First, it creates a constant stream of traffic to your site, much like Pay Per Click (PPC). Second, many other individuals also use the Alexa toolbar which will boost your results in both Alexa and search engines. The Alexa toolbar gathers information about a user’s browsing history including what site they visited. If there are alot of people visiting your site with the Alexa toolbar it will actually improve your rank.

Time Efficiency
Traffic exchanges, much like PPC, bring in unique visitors to your website. They do this by basically “setting and forgetting” your campaigns, other than tweaking for better results. This allows the owner of the site to market and earn towards those individuals, much like a PPC campaign. While the traffic exchange is getting you traffic you can focus on other forms of advertising/improving conversion rates. “Traffic is Traffic,” unknown author, whenever I see this quote I immediately think WRONG! In this case with traffic exchanges, “traffic is traffic”, basically you already know what you are getting before you go for it. Traffic exchanges also offer a nice option to “buy credits” which essentially purchases more traffic and more visits to your site. Some traffic exchanges, like traffic swarm, offer premium memberships which come with a slew of features as well.

Traffic with Traffic Exchanges

April 20th, 2009 Ricardo V No comments

What is a Traffic Exchange?
As the name implies, they are sites/companies which allow you to exchange traffic with other sites. Traffic exchanges are also sometimes considered manual surfing sites, where you “surf” sites. Traffic exchanges are usually built around a click/credit system. The more credits you have/use the more exposure and traffic your site will receive.

What is the quality of traffic?
(Now what I’m going to say is just my personal generalized opinion, and should not discourage you.) Most of the traffic which comes from traffic exchanges is “mindless” traffic. I say “mindless” because most visitors are only waiting for the 30-60 second timers to be up. Once the 30-60 second timers are up the can click on the next site to continue earning credits. This means two things:

First – You need to capture attention within 15 seconds
Second- you need to convert in the next 15 seconds, before the 30 second timer expires.

With the above said I would not totally discredit traffic exchange traffic. I have clicked for credits and probably will again in the future. Every time I start a new project I add it to my traffic exchanges. If you really think about it, it’s very similar to PPC marketing. The form of payment which is offered to the user is credits and you still market your product. Likewise, instead of pay for the visitor with money you use credits. The more credits you have the more exposure you get and, Yes! you can buy credits.

To date my most effective company that I have used is Traffic Swarm. It’s actually the only traffic exchange company I ever paid to use/get more credits. I have a few (splash/lead capture pages) for various things and routinely see more submissions from Traffic Swarm than all my other traffic exchanges combined.

Building Links and Keywords through Blog Series

March 30th, 2009 Ricardo V 7 comments

Now that you have set up your blog post series, if you haven’t visit what is a blog series, it’s time to learn how to build keywords and links with blog post series. There are a few reasons why quality keywords are created in your niche field when using a blog post series and I’d like to go over a few.

  • Niche Topic = Niche Keyword
    1. It’s only logical to realize that posting about a “word” and repeating that “word” is how you build quality keywords. Focusing on certain terms or phrases within your niche to be picked up by search engines. Now say you start a blog post series about Article Marketing Traffic. Your series will mention the term “article marketing” in every single post a few times just by default. It will be normal to type in the word 4-5 times into your post just due to describing it.
  • Daily/Weekly Update = PR Love
    1. As you know if you are talking about something on your blog every single day/week you will be building keywords for it. This does not go unnoticed. When a search engine bot comes to your site on Day 1 and sees “keyword a,b,c” then comes to your site on Day 2 and sees “keyword a,b,c” that automatically throws a sort of question mark that this must be an important “key phrase”. Now you are building highly targeted keywords day in and day out and getting them indexed by search engines. The reinforcement of keywords that a blog series provides is the key here. By having your blog series strung together by daily posts, or set intervals weekly you are building a rhythm of like keywords.
  • Articles + Blog Series
    1. By using the tips here about article marketing traffic, which was a 4-5 day blog post series, you will be able to effectively get your blog series links out there. By creating like articles, and if needed rewriting your blog posts into articles, you will be building a viral link pattern through your series. In addition to articles getting indexed with related keywords your articles are all pointing at your related blog post series and their keywords.

Article Rewriting Magic – Articles and Blog Posts

March 25th, 2009 Ricardo V 2 comments
Converting Articles into Blog Posts: Do’s and Dont’s Pt.2

  • Topic: Converting Articles into Blog Posts – Converting Blog Posts into Articles
  •  Last post, Article Marketing your Blog Posts we talked about what you definitely shouldn’t do when trying to rewrite articles and blog posts, then effectively marketing them. I need to mention one thing: Don’t Steal Other Peoples Work! It will catch up to you very, very quickly. The following methods I’m going to talk about are manual rewriting techniques I learned in my Writing 307 course, while pursuing my baccalaureate degree. While rewriting articles it’s important to focus on 3 things: the overall message, related keywords, proper grammar and citation.

The Overall Message of your blog post/article(content) needs to remain the same. If you were previously talking about “How to Make Money Blogging with Adsense” your overall message should be so, it shouldn’t be completely off base like, “Blogging with Adsense Makes Money”. This is a common flaw when rewriting articles, people think they can rearrange words without breaking the meaning of the overall message. Here would be a better title which is similar but not the same, “Adsense Helps YOU Make Money Blogging, Learn How”. Since your title and h2/h3 is your most important part of your content its important to have your overall message effectively conveyed. In addition to this your title, h2/h3 tags should have your related keywords as well.

Related Keywords vs Exact Keywords – This can be a double edged sword, some people say exactly the same keywords some say related. Here is what I say, related keywords. Logically, if you have a good PR for a certain keyword already, “Article Marketing with Ezine Submissions”, why would you continue to publish with that keyword to create competition against yourself. Now I’m not saying create keywords and forget about them but slightly change them, “Marketing with Ezine Article Submissions.” It’s reworded yes, but to Google its a new key phrase which can and would be searched.

Say you are rewriting a long article it’s important to focus on grammar and structure just as much as if you were writing new content. The content should flow freely onto the screen, and should not seem forced. One of the main issues with article rewriting programs is the lack of grammar and structure which the programs fail to address.
  • Here is a quick tip which can and will help you when you need to rewrite an article/blog post.
    1- Print out the original
2- Jot down keywords from original – create related keywords for the rewrite
3- Summarize the overall message of the original, don’t copy any sentences from the original.
4- The Summary you just created above is your first paragraph, now expand while inserting the keywords you created in step 2.
5- Conclude the article with a summary of the new article/post.

I personally create/write/rewrite all of my articles, blog posts, keywords, titles, tags, topics, ideas in a notebook. I print out the original read it over, summarize it. Then put it away and begin to expand on the summary with the new keywords.
