Importance of the Speed Test

As I began to update my other blogs (an ongoing process which was started about 2 weeks ago) I began to look at three main things:

1. Website Loading Speeds vs Size of Site

2. Visitor Ease of Use – Easy Blogging Simplified with Wibiya

3. Search Engine Friendliness

I never really built pages for speed, or cared about file sizes/loading times. Recently while at work I was working on a dinosaur computer from say 2000 or so. This computer had 512 ram, a 14 gb harddrive, and the slowest DSL ever clocked in the area (according to dslreports.com). As I tried to load a few of my sites I soon realized I had a bunch of unused graphics, bells and whistles, and excess material cluttering my sites. Needless to say I understand the entire worldwide computer isn’t on the fastest of Internets or able to purchase the best/newest of computers. So I have embarked on a cleaning like no other. The first tool which I suggest for all of the NYW readers to use is a basic data gathering tool. “You gotta know where you are to know where your going.” (kind of).

(eg. iwebtool.com)

The above tool is a website speed test by iWebTool (dot) com. It’s free to use for 5 queries (10 sites per query) every hour. I hope it helps you start on your journey to make your site load faster/test different approaches to presenting your site to others.

Does the Wibiya tool slowdown your site much?

  3. Ricardo V says:

Hey, actually I think my site has stayed relatively the same loading speed, less than a second increase for the wibiya toolbar it’s non-intrusive and definitely not a resource hog.
