Blogging: Widgets and Plugins!

    Widgets and Plugins

  • As you search for widgets and plugins keep in mind what you want them to do for you. A few key widgets and plugins to have on your wordpress blog are based around the next 3 topics: Advertisements, Media, and Social Networks. Downloading and installing plugins can be done automatically with WordPress by going to your plugins tab and searching. Plugins can be downloaded for other blog platforms from other sites by searching Google.

  • 1. Advertisements
    1. One of the most popular advertisment widgets is by far OIO Publisher. OIO Publisher allows you to directly sell your ad space, at the price you want and when you want.
Also I recommend BidvertiserPromote your Website or Blog with BidVertiser. Get $20 in FREE clicks.

    2. Pictures, Videos, and Audio

Pictures – I use – Flickr, which can be built into wordpress with a plugin. Check out my gallery here!
Video/Audio – I would suggest a youtube account since you will be able to find the most support integrating youtube with wordpress, typepad, or blogger.
  • 3. Social Networks – Register, Follow Me, and I’ll Follow Back!
    1. A. Twitter
      B. Digg
      C. Blogger
      D. MyBlogLog
      E. Blog Catalog
      F. Add to Technorati Favorites
      G. StumbleUpon

Blogging: Appearance is Key!

    Themes: Where and How

  • How to Choose the Right Theme
    1. Blogs can be any theme they want really, there is no right theme. The theme is up to the owner of the blog and they can choose what they like.
With the above said, most blogs are built with a theme which focuses on their niche. An example, if you have a blog about fast cars your theme could have a picture of a fast car.
  • Where can I find a theme?
    1. The best place to look is a search engine of course. An example of a search could be: “wordpress themes” or “blogger themes”
Carl Ocab, also known as the kid blogger, has come up with The Ultimate Blogging Theme.
This theme offers: A google friendly design, optimal advertising placements, easy navigation, and an eye-grabbing look

    What Image are you Conveying?

  • Is your Content + your Theme sending the right message?
    1. Your theme is used to grab the attention of your readers, but your content keeps your readers coming back and subscribing. An easy way to keep readers coming back for more is updating daily. By updating your blog daily you will have search engines crawling it more often and will be known to keep your site’s content updated.
Presentation is also important though, having an appealing theme will allow you to brand yourself as a knowledgeable individual within your niche.

Blogging: Let’s Get Started!

    Choosing a topic/niche?

  • Content is king.
    1. If you want to have faithful readers you have to establish your topic from the start. Many blogs take shape as either business or personal. The choice is up to you, but remember it’s easier to write about something your truly passionate about.
Content is king, posting unique information is the best way to get noticed by others. The way you can make sure your information is relevant and unique is by searching the web. Allowing yourself to stand apart from others will increase your subscribers and will keep you motivated to keep your blog active.

What is a Weblog?

A weblog, also known as a blog, is basically an online journal where you can type your thoughts, ideas, opinions, and practically anything that you want to share. The information you share on a blog can be kept private, like a diary, or made public. A blogger has, at their sole discretion, the choice to talk about and share anything they want. A blog can be seen as many things, many blogs fall into the category of personal or business/corporate. Some blogs also take a more media proactive approach, with web cams, videos, and audio recordings. The below information should prove useful.
