How to Setup an Effective Blog Series

March 27th, 2009 Ricardo V 3 comments

There are a few ways to use blog post series to your advantage. There are also many ways to market your blog series, acquire new RSS subscribers, and build long term high ranking keywords with blog series. Blog series allow you to effectively market related keywords, to the series, over and over again. Blog Series are also great ways to get traffic to your site through articles and press releases. As such I thought I would start off by mentioning there are a few ways to setup an effective blog series.

A blog post series does two things for you, as a site/blog owner, it keeps you focused on a certain topic which appeals to your readers and it drives targeted traffic to your site for that topic, via keywords. As you know on Nurture Your Wealth, we currently have two weekly blog post series, and many other unannounced blog post series. Just recently, Nurture Your Wealth featured 4-5 days worth of posts on article marketing with ezine articles, which included some article marketing tips, how to rewrite articles, and do’s and dont’s for article marketing. In correlation to that we host two weekly health related series, Sara’s Sunny Sundays which explains her “Completely Rich Lifestyle”, and we have Tai Chi Tuesdays which will teach you everything Tai Chi/Taiji.

The main thing when setting up an effective blog series is to determine if it will be announced or unannounced. Announced means you will blatantly state that that post is part of a series. Unannounced will take the shape like my blogging tips, What is a Weblog, which focused on the same topic but wasn’t added into a weekly rotation.

More to come + examples tomorrow so stay tuned!

Article Marketing in Numbers!

Is Article Marketing Quality or Quantity?

  • To answer simply, both. Now that we can get past some simple writers block, how many articles should you publish a month, a week, or a day? This is a very common question and of course there is no definitive answer, it all depends on how much you want your articles to do for you. Articles have the possibility of being seen by hundreds to thousands of readers every month. Paid article submissions may be seen by more individuals then free ones, but it is sometimes hit or miss. Knowing that your articles can be seen by hundreds and thousands of readers you want your content quality to be on point.

I have found that publishing 5-10 articles weekly usually 5, sometimes 10, keeps a consistent flow of traffic coming to my site listed in my author resource box.

Here’s an example in December: I published 7 articles, and submit 12 free press releases for one of my sites. It was a highly targeted niche and I was sure to make my titles/keywords in the article relevant to my sites keywords. That end of the month and the beginning of January I saw an increase in traffic by 35% of my previous stats. 13% was directly from articles/press releases. 35% increase in traffic was huge for me, even more surprising was that 13% only reflected December and January. This past month in February, those same 19 publications brought in 480 unique visitors, which equaled to 2,500 pages viewed.

My results were small in comparison to some article marketers. Some people write and publish 10-20 articles a day and can build their traffic like crazy. The articles aren’t all “excellent” but they aren’t crap either. My advice to you is sit down everyday, look at your ideas in your idea notebook. Just start writing about that idea, make it a habit every morning or every night to write and publish 1 article and you will be at 7 a week. This will increase your traffic and SEO exponentially.

Article Content That Will Blow Your Socks Off!

Article Writing Tips – Keep your content original!

  • Our last post here at Nurture Your Wealth was about Article Marketing, and how you can get easy, simple traffic from articles. That’s all fine and dandy if you have articles to post, but what happens when you reach writer’s block?
First of all, I suggest you think about placing articles into two categories:

1- Article is trying to sell something directly or indirectly.
2- Article is a how to, trying to teach, informational.

Once you can figure out which you are trying to right you need to think about ways to beat writer’s block. Not having any idea’s for content can be a huge issue and although we are talking about article marketing the same thing applies for blog posts and press releases. The first tip and the one that has influenced me the most is keep a pen and paper handy at all times. Anytime you think of a category, title, keyword, topic, and/or idea jot it down. I have about 82 ideas so far in one notebook on topics/keywords I would eventually like to touch upon, which at minimum is 82 days worth of blog posts for me.
Now you may be thinking well that’s great, but I don’t have any ideas. Let’s go back to basics:
    1- Selling/Promoting something
    2- Teaching/How-to

  • 1- Selling/Promoting Something
The first thing you need to look at is what are you selling/promoting. That alone equals 1-2 paragraphs (100-250 words).
Second, Who is selling it, what they stand for(vision & mission), and facts about the company. Another 1-2 paragraphs (100-250 words).
Finally, Call to Action / Reasons to buy now, from you / Why they can’t live without it. 1 paragraph (short and to the point!).
  • 2- Teaching / Informational / How-To
      Teaching/Informational is even easier.
1- State topic, and briefly describe 3-5 main points (1 paragraph).
      2- Main Point 1 + describe
      3- Main Point 2 + describe
      4- Main Point 3 + describe
5- Cite some helpful sources (3-5 links)
      6- Describe sources if needed
7- Restate your original stuff / conclusion

Your article is now 4-7 paragraphs long – and is ready to be published. It’s important to remember to use original content.

Article Marketing is Easy Traffic!

Having trouble finding easy free traffic to your site?

  • Article Marketing is simple and free traffic to your website. By publishing articles about your niche you are expanding your exposure and impression on the internet as a leading authority of knowledge. Publishing articles allows the company to present quality original content to it’s subscribers. When those subscribers read and share your article you get traffic from back links, ping backs, and track backs created by your article. Articles also helps your search engine page rank, by having a live link to your site in the authors biography/resource box. Article Marketing is easy traffic for the following reasons:
      Creating Live Inbound Links
      Self-Branding, Authority Image
      Reach Subscribed Targeted Audiences
      Increased Exposure=Increased Traffic
Chance to create/be featured in an eBook with your articles
  • Creating Live Inbound Links
Through your author resource box you are adding in 1-3 links to sites which relate to the author or the article. This helps build in-links/back links to your sites and will affect your search engine page rank in a promising way. Also Live Inbound Links can be obtained by having a user/author profile with the specific company/site which will and can include live links back to your site as well.
  • Self-Branding
Self-Branding is just important now as it was 3-5 years ago. By creating a follower and reader base through quality content rich articles written by yourself you will be labeled as an authority in your niche. This takes time to build, but the results are fantastic. Everyone hopes to build a name for themselves in life, either as president/ceo of a company or as an actor/actress, etc. The internet is no different, if you seem like you know what your talking about and people enjoy reading what you have to say they will follow you. Just look at John Chow and ShoeMoney, they have great websites setup with thousands of followers due to self-branding.
  • Reach Subscribed Targeted Audiences
Many times when you submit your article to article submission directories they are placed in certain categories. By categorizing articles into certain topics, people know exactly what to expect when they go to the section “Article Marketing”, or “Marketing with Ezine Articles”. This allows you to reach a targeted audience of subscribed readers to your specific topic. It’s important to establish a strong reader base for your articles as they will also be picked up by search engines and can propel your page rank within weeks of being published.
  • Increased Exposure = Increased Traffic
If you have a higher search engine page rank your article traffic will increase, which will increase your blog/site traffic, which will then increase your page rank even higher. Okay, that’s in a perfect world. Realistically speaking, you can hope to see about 100-500+ unique visitors a month from a free article submission depending on the topic. If you do a paid submission then you will see a much much larger number.
  • Chance to create/be featured in an eBook with your articles
If you publish alot of articles it’s wise to advertise that your articles can be reprinted/included in an eBook with/without your permission dependent on they link back to your site/article. This creates a viral marketing effect, because free eBooks have a very good tendency to spread like wildfire throughout the internet, especially if they are filled with quality content. Another important thing to consider is once you get 5-10 articles/posts on a certain topic you should begin to think about making your own free eBook which can be sent out via email newsletter/or can be sold through your site.
