What is a Traffic Exchange?
As the name implies, they are sites/companies which allow you to exchange traffic with other sites. Traffic exchanges are also sometimes considered manual surfing sites, where you “surf” sites. Traffic exchanges are usually built around a click/credit system. The more credits you have/use the more exposure and traffic your site will receive.
What is the quality of traffic?
(Now what I’m going to say is just my personal generalized opinion, and should not discourage you.) Most of the traffic which comes from traffic exchanges is “mindless” traffic. I say “mindless” because most visitors are only waiting for the 30-60 second timers to be up. Once the 30-60 second timers are up the can click on the next site to continue earning credits. This means two things:
- First – You need to capture attention within 15 seconds
Second- you need to convert in the next 15 seconds, before the 30 second timer expires.
With the above said I would not totally discredit traffic exchange traffic. I have clicked for credits and probably will again in the future. Every time I start a new project I add it to my traffic exchanges. If you really think about it, it’s very similar to PPC marketing. The form of payment which is offered to the user is credits and you still market your product. Likewise, instead of pay for the visitor with money you use credits. The more credits you have the more exposure you get and, Yes! you can buy credits.
To date my most effective company that I have used is Traffic Swarm. It’s actually the only traffic exchange company I ever paid to use/get more credits. I have a few (splash/lead capture pages) for various things and routinely see more submissions from Traffic Swarm than all my other traffic exchanges combined.
